Carissa Hernandez

Secretary

Carissa Hernandez completed her BS degree in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a MS degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University.  She began her full time career as a Manufacturing Engineer for monofilament suture at Covidien (now Medtronic).  From there, Carissa transitioned to become a Product Engineer working on manual and powered surgical stapling technologies.  She is currently a Senior Project Manager in New Product Development, managing Hernia and Wound Management products.  She is also an active member of several Employee Resource Groups at Medtronic, including a Steering Committee member for Medtronic Women’s Network Connecticut.  Carissa has been involved in SWE since her collegiate years and has been an active SWE Connecticut member since 2014.  Carissa served as secretary for FY23.
