Attending WE ’19 in Annaheim, CA
Did you know that your company’s training budgets might able to support your attendance of professional conferences?
If you’re interested in attending the annual SWE conference, WE19, in Anaheim, CA November 7-9, 2019 your leader may be able to sponsor your attendance through his or her training budget or other annual company resources. Below are some tips on how to approach your leader for sponsorship to attend WE19! Your SWE Resume Create a SWE resume that lists out your SWE-related activities; include any volunteerism, professional development, and any leadership positions you hold or have held. Business Case How would your participation in WE19 benefit [Company]? Write a letter to your leader detailing how your involvement with SWE and WE19 attendance benefits you and [Company]. Your leader may use this letter and your SWE resume to request funding from higher leadership, HR, etc. (See example below) Finances Research the cost of a plane ticket, hotel, and per diem rates for Anaheim to add food and incidental estimates. Don’t forget the conference registration fee and any paid time off you’ll be requesting. Other tips: Know your bottom line: depending on budgets and other constraints, your leader may not be able to fully support the trip, so know your bottom line and be ready to negotiate! Don’t delay: WE19 registration is now OPEN! Budgets tend to get constrained as the year goes on, so approach your leader early on to request sponsorship to conference. Ways to save: consider volunteering at conference for a reduced registration fee. Be willing to hear “no”: for any number of reasons, your leader may be unable to support your conference attendance, so be willing to be turned down. Ask for consideration for WE20 to start planning early! ![]()
